Valentine's bakes, made to order

Chocolate says it better than a card, and it always fits. Small sharing cakes, brownie boxes and cupcakes, baked to order for the fourteenth and ready to collect or delivered locally.

Two weeks is plenty

Cakes want about two weeks of notice as a rule, and Valentine's is a single day with everybody wanting the same one, so early February is the sensible time to ask. Brownie boxes can usually be done at shorter notice.

    Rich, and the coffee stops it being sweet.

  • Red velvet with white chocolate buttercream

    Soft red velvet against smooth white chocolate.

  • Vanilla cake with vanilla bean buttercream

    Real vanilla in the sponge and the buttercream.

  • Caramel and sea salt brownies

    Caramel rippled through, sea salt over the top.

  • Triple chocolate brownies

    Dark, milk and white in the same square.

  • Hand-piped cupcakes

    Minimum 24 cupcakes, 2 flavours.

Small cakes, for two people who are not going to finish a tier

A six-inch cake feeds ten to twelve, which for two people means it lasts the week, and that is not a criticism. The chocolate under coffee buttercream is the one I would send; red velvet against white chocolate buttercream is the one most people ask for on the fourteenth. Both can be decorated as plainly or as soppily as you like.

Brownie boxes

For anyone who would rather eat than perform. Caramel and sea salt, triple chocolate, plain if that is honestly the favourite. A box of squares is a better gift than a bad restaurant table on the busiest night of the year, and it does not need booking in November.

Not only for couples

A good half of what leaves this kitchen in February goes to friends, to mums, to people having a hard month. Cupcakes for a class, a cake for a friend who has had a rotten winter. Tell me who it is for and I will not make it embarrassing unless you want it to be.
