Who I am

Sploffin is a small-batch bakery at East Station Road, Fletton Quays, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire. I'm a registered food business and I bake from my home kitchen. If you need me for anything, a question or a change to an order, email sploffin@gmail.com, and the full invoicing address is on every invoice.

These terms cover anything you order from sploffin.com, for made-to-order cakes and pop-up menus alike. By placing an order you're agreeing to them, so please have a read, they're short, and the allergens section matters.

Made-to-order cakes

Cakes start with an enquiry, not a checkout. You tell me what you're after, and I'll come back with a firm quote within a day. The quoted price is the price, no surprises later.

A 50% deposit secures your date and is what starts the baking. The balance is due a week before you collect, or before I deliver. A £100 booking fee holds your wedding date. It comes off the price rather than being an extra charge, and the balance is due four weeks before the wedding. Deposits and booking fees are non-refundable, because holding your date means turning other work away, but what I keep if you cancel is proportionate: more than a month ahead, i keep the deposit or booking fee only. inside a month, i keep half the total, because the date is now hard to fill. inside a week, the full price stands: the shopping is done and the baking is under way.

Pop-up orders

Pop-up orders are placed online from a published menu. I bake in finite batches, so when a menu says something has sold out, it's genuinely sold out, I can't magic up more that day.

A made-to-order cake is booked once the quote is agreed and the deposit is paid; a pop-up or shop order is confirmed when you place it, and each menu is only available while stocks last.

Payment

For pop-up orders, payment works as stated at checkout. At the moment that means paying on collection. When online payment is enabled, it is processed by Stripe on Stripe's own pages, and card details never touch this site.

For made-to-order cakes, it's the deposit or booking fee up front and the balance before the date, as above. Anything bought from the shop is paid in full at checkout.

Cancellations and changes

Plans change, I get it. If you need to cancel or change an order, contact me as soon as you possibly can and I'll handle it case by case.

I'll be straight with you about why timing matters: once baking has started, I've bought the ingredients and put in the hours, so costs have already been incurred. The earlier you tell me, the more I can do.

The legal bit, said plainly: the 14-day cancellation right that covers most online purchases does not apply here, because the law itself excludes goods made to the customer's order and fresh food that does not keep, which is everything I sell. What you have instead is the deposit scale for cakes, my case-by-case flexibility on everything else, and your full statutory rights if anything is faulty or not as described. Those are never affected by anything on this page.

Allergens: please read this before ordering

All 14 regulated allergens are present in my kitchen. Every order carries a full PPDS ingredient and allergen label, but because everything is baked in the same space, I cannot guarantee any bake is free of traces of any allergen.

Before you order, please read the allergen information at /allergens. If you or anyone you're ordering for has a severe allergy, you must tell me before ordering, not at collection. If the risk of traces isn't safe for you, please don't order, however much I'd love to bake for you.

Collection and delivery

Collection is free from the pop-up spot confirmed with your order.

Delivery for celebration cakes and event orders is local to Peterborough and the surrounding PE postcodes, and is priced in your written quote.

Everything ordered directly through the website for delivery is shipped to your door by Royal Mail or DPD.

Looking after your bakes

Every order comes with a full ingredient label, and anything you need to know about a specific bake will be on it or told to you with the order. Once it's handed over, storage and food safety at home are in your hands, I bake it right, you keep it right.

My words, photos and recipes

The content on this site, the words, the photos, and the recipes as I've presented them, belongs to Sploffin. Please don't copy or reuse it without asking me first. If you do want to use something, email me; I'm usually friendly about it.

Your rights

Nothing in these terms limits any liability that can't legally be limited, and nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer. If the law gives you a right, these terms don't take it away.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any dispute will be dealt with by the courts of England and Wales.

That said, if something's gone wrong, email me at sploffin@gmail.com first. I'm one baker, not a call centre, and I'd much rather sort it out with you directly.
