Questions people ask me
These are the same answers you'd get if you emailed me: prices, delivery, allergens, the lot.
(no question about cake is too small)
Sploffin is a small-batch bakery in Peterborough making cupcakes, birthday cakes and wedding cakes to order, with cake delivery across Peterborough and the surrounding PE postcodes, plus pies, sausage rolls and pastries from the same oven. The questions below cover how to order a cake, what delivery costs, and how I handle allergens.
Ordering
When do you launch?
Sploffin's first pop-up lands Nov–Dec 2026. There's no exact date yet, because I don't want to promise one and miss it. The surest way to catch the first pop-up is to join the Pop-Up List; you'll get one email the moment it goes live. Cake enquiries are open now, and I answer every one with a firm price within a day.
How do I order?
To order a cake from Sploffin in Peterborough, send an enquiry through the cupcake, birthday or wedding cake page and I'll send a firm price back within a day. For the pop-up, order online before the cut-off shown on the pop-up page, then collect free from the pop-up spot in Peterborough. You pay online when you order, so your collection is already settled, and a small number of extras are sold at the pop-up on the day while they last.
Do you take a deposit?
Yes, on cakes made to order. A 50% deposit secures your date and is what starts the baking. The balance is due a week before you collect, or before I deliver. A £100 booking fee holds your wedding date. It comes off the price rather than being an extra charge, and the balance is due four weeks before the wedding. Nothing is charged while you are still deciding. You get a firm quote first, and the deposit is what turns an enquiry into a date in the book. Bakes ordered from a pop-up menu work differently: those are a published price and paid in full, with no deposit involved.
How much do the pop-up bakes cost?
Sploffin's pop-up prices sit in five bands: buns at £3.00, cake by the slice at £4.00, meat pies at £5.00, cookie boxes at £5.00 and vegetarian pies & sausage rolls at £4.00. Everything is baked just for your order, and you order online before the cut-off shown on the pop-up page. Cupcakes are the exception: they are made to order only, £4.00 each with a minimum of 24 cupcakes, and never appear at a pop-up. The ready-made box of 12 on the cupcake box page is the one exception to the minimum.
Delivery & collection
Where in Peterborough are you based?
Sploffin is my bakery serving Peterborough and the surrounding PE1 to PE5 postcodes, including Werrington, Orton, Hampton, Stanground, Longthorpe and Bretton. Orders are collected from the pop-up spot in Peterborough, and the exact spot is confirmed when you order. Celebration cakes can be delivered locally, with the delivery priced in your quote.
Do you deliver cakes in Peterborough?
Yes. Celebration cakes and event orders are delivered across Peterborough and the surrounding PE postcodes, with the delivery priced in your quote, so you see the exact figure in writing before you pay anything. Collection in Peterborough is always free, and tiered wedding cakes are delivered and set up at your venue. Anything the website sends to your door, like the letterbox gifts and cupcake boxes, ships by Royal Mail or DPD.
The kitchen
What do you make?
Sploffin makes cupcakes, birthday cakes and wedding cakes to order, plus savoury bakes and pastries: lamb sausage rolls, beef, chicken and vegetarian pies, sheet cake by the slice, banana bread, hot cross buns, cookies and choux buns. I also bake a rum-soaked fruit cake, which is rare to find freshly baked. Cupcakes are order-only and don't appear at a pop-up.
What about allergens?
Every Sploffin order goes out with a full allergen label to UK PPDS requirements, so you always know exactly what's in your bake. Everything is baked in a home kitchen where all 14 major allergens are present, including nuts. If someone at your table has a severe allergy, tell me when you enquire and I'll be straight with you about what I can and can't make safely from a shared kitchen.
Are you a registered food business?
Yes. Sploffin is a registered food business with the local authority in Peterborough, and every order comes with full allergen information labelled to UK requirements.
