A letterbox box is a slim box of fresh bakes, designed to slide through a standard UK letterbox, so it arrives with the post and nobody has to wait in for a courier. Sploffin's boxes hold hand-cut brownies and thick slices of cake, baked to order in my Peterborough kitchen and posted anywhere in the UK.

Five postal boxes, all on sale now: sliced lemon loaf cake, banana bread with walnut, letterbox brownies (six kinds including blondies), letterbox cookies (five kinds, two to a box), and the baker's choice treats box that mixes them. There is one more page for the vegan cakes: vanilla, chocolate and carrot, made to order locally while the postal versions are still being worked out.

The boxes are designed around the standard UK letterbox slot: the bakes are packed flat in a single layer, and the box is designed to post like a large letter.

Brownies and loaf cakes are the right bakes for the post: dense, moist and at their best for days, unlike delicate pastry. Every box is baked for your order, never pulled off a shelf, and each one carries a full ingredient and allergen label with a best-before date, so you can see exactly what you're eating and when to eat it by. They are at their best within five days of arriving.

Yes. Letterbox boxes are made for gifting: add a message with your order and I'll include it in the box. I don't put invoices in gift boxes.

Anywhere in the UK with a letterbox. Collection and delivery stay local to Peterborough, but letterbox boxes travel by post, so this is the way to get Sploffin bakes if you live further afield.

Next day, yes, on a day you book: choose DPD next day at checkout and any Tuesday to Friday at least three days ahead, and DPD's next-day service carries it for that day, on the UK mainland. Same day, no, because every box is baked to order for the day it travels.

Yes. The checkout takes one address per order, so for a few people place an order each, each with its own handwritten card. For a longer list or a company thank you, email me the addresses and what you would like in each, and I will price the whole run at once. For staff birthdays, the Birthday Book books the whole year in one payment.

Right now. The lemon loaf cake, banana bread, brownies, cookies and treats boxes are all ordered and paid online and posted anywhere in the UK, with Royal Mail postage added at checkout. The vegan boxes are the one part still being worked out for the post.
