Baked and delivered in Peterborough
Wedding cakes in Peterborough
One cake, one couple, no production line. We take a small number of weddings so each cake gets proper attention — baked to order in Peterborough, decorated to match your day, and delivered and set up so it's standing exactly as it should when your guests walk in.

Tiers, towers, or something older
A classic tiered sponge, with flavours that can differ tier to tier so there's something for everyone. A cupcake tower, if you'd rather guests helped themselves and you kept a small cutting cake for the photographs. Or a traditional Caribbean black cake — dark, rum-soaked and heavily spiced, the cake my grandmother made for weddings in Trinidad, and still the most requested thing I bake.
Black cake, properly made
Real black cake is not a quick job. The dried fruit soaks in rum and cherry brandy for months before it ever meets the oven, which is why it keeps, why couples save a tier for their first anniversary, and why we need at least three months' notice for it. If you grew up with it, you already know. If you didn't, ask for a taste and see.
Tastings and getting the details right
We'd rather you tasted the cake before committing to it. Ask about a tasting box when you enquire and we'll sort flavours for you to try at home. From there we'll agree tiers, flavours, colours and finish in writing, so what arrives on the day is what you chose months earlier.
Delivery and setup across Peterborough
Tiered cakes don't travel well on a back seat, so we deliver and assemble at your venue ourselves. Delivery and setup is included in the quote for venues in and around Peterborough, and further afield we simply price the travel in — we don't turn weddings away over distance. Tell us the venue and access details when you book and we'll plan the timing around your day rather than ours.
Who you're actually booking
I'm Alana. I was born in Trinidad, learned to bake beside my grandmother — who catered weddings across the island — and started taking my own orders at fifteen. Sploffin is a registered food business working from a home kitchen in Peterborough, and your cake will be made by me, not passed to someone else.
How many tiers for your guest list?
Most couples work backwards from guest numbers. These are round tiers; square tiers give roughly a quarter more again, and a separate cutting cake or cupcake tower can top up a big room.
| Tiers | Party slices | Finger portions |
|---|---|---|
| Two tiers (6" + 8") | 26–32 | 40 |
| Three tiers (6" + 8" + 10") | 52–62 | 75 |
| Four tiers (6" + 8" + 10" + 12") | 92–106 | 130 |
A party slice is a proper dessert wedge — what you'd actually serve at a birthday. A finger portion is the thin wedding-style slice that makes a cake stretch much further. Both numbers are honest; they're just different slices, so tell us which you have in mind.

Questions people ask
How much does a wedding cake cost in Peterborough?
Every wedding cake is quoted individually on tiers, flavours and guest numbers, and the quote includes delivery and setup at your venue in Peterborough. Traditional Caribbean black cake, sugar flowers and detailed finishes cost more than a plain buttercream finish. Send your date and rough guest numbers and you'll get a firm price with no obligation.
How far in advance should I book a wedding cake?
Two to three months is comfortable for a tiered wedding cake in Peterborough, and because only a small number of weddings are taken each month, popular summer dates go early. Traditional Caribbean black cake needs a minimum of three months because the fruit soaks in rum first. If your date is sooner, ask anyway.
Do you offer wedding cake tastings?
Yes. Ask about a tasting when you enquire and we'll put together a box of flavours for you to try at home before you commit to anything. It's the easiest way to choose between sponges, and it means no surprises on the day.
Do you deliver and set up wedding cakes at venues?
Yes. Delivery and setup at your venue is included in the quote for weddings in and around Peterborough, and for venues further out the travel is simply priced into the quote rather than being a reason to say no. Tiered cakes are assembled on site rather than transported built, because that's the only way to guarantee they arrive straight.
Can one wedding cake have different flavours in each tier?
Yes, and most couples do. Each tier can be a different sponge — for example chocolate, vanilla and a traditional black cake tier — so guests get a choice and you can include the flavour that matters to your family.
What is Caribbean black cake?
Black cake is the traditional Trinidadian wedding and Christmas cake: dried fruit soaked in rum and cherry brandy for weeks, then baked into a dark, dense, deeply spiced cake. It keeps for months, which is why couples traditionally save a tier for their first anniversary. It is closer to a rich fruit cake than a sponge, and nothing like a supermarket version.
Can you match our wedding colours and flowers?
Yes. Send colour swatches, your florist's details or a photograph of your scheme and we'll match the finish. We're honest about what buttercream and icing can achieve — some looks are better with fresh flowers, and we'll say so rather than promise something that won't photograph well.
