The year, in order

Starting from the season that's running and going round. Every menu is made to order, and nothing on any of them is baked in advance and held.

The short version

How a seasonal order works

Tell me the date first

The date decides everything else. Send it with what you would like and roughly how many you are feeding, and I will come back within a day with a firm price and a yes or a no about the date, never a maybe that turns into a no in December.

Baked in the week you collect

Seasonal orders are taken in small numbers so nothing has to be made weeks early and frozen to make the numbers work. The exception is the rum-soaked fruit cake, which needs months, but that is the fruit soaking, not the cake waiting around.

Collect free, or local delivery

Collection in Peterborough is free. Local delivery across the PE postcodes is priced in your quote, so you see the figure in writing before anything is paid.

Seasonal questions

What are Sploffin's seasonal menus?

A menu for each season of the year: Christmas, New Year, Valentine's, Easter, spring, summer, autumn and Halloween — made to order from a registered home kitchen in Peterborough. Each one is drawn from the same recipes, arranged for what that time of year actually calls for.

How far ahead should I order seasonal bakes?

It depends on the season. Christmas orders open 1 October with collection and delivery from 1 November. Celebration cakes generally want about two weeks, wedding cakes two to three months, and the rum-soaked fruit cake a minimum of three months because the fruit soaks that long. Each season's page says what is realistic for that date.

Can I order from a seasonal menu at any time of year?

Ask. Most of what is on these menus is baked all year and simply suits one season best. The genuinely seasonal ones, like hot cross buns at Easter or the rum-soaked fruit cake at Christmas, need their own notice, and the fruit cake needs months.
