New Year 2026
New Year bakes, made to order
The week between Christmas and New Year is when nobody wants to cook and everybody still has people in the house. A cake worth cutting at midnight, cookie boxes for the table, and savoury bakes that can come out of the oven at eleven o'clock without any effort from you.
(cake at midnight, banana bread at noon)
Ask before Christmas
New Year sits at the end of the busiest fortnight of my year, so the honest advice is to ask in early December. The 29th is optimistic. If you leave it late, ask anyway. I will tell you straight away whether I can fit it in.
Everything made to order
The new year menu
Tell me what you would like and roughly how many you are feeding, and I will come back with a price and confirm your date. Collection in Peterborough is free; local delivery is priced in your quote.
To cut at midnight
Chocolate cake with coffee Swiss meringue buttercream
The grown-up choice, and the coffee keeps it from being sweet.
Vanilla cake with vanilla bean buttercream
Real vanilla, seeds and all. The one nobody argues about.
Hand-piped cupcakes
Minimum 24 cupcakes, piped in whatever colours the night is wearing.
For the table
Cookie boxes
Vanilla and lemon zest butter cookies, boxed up for people to graze on.
Brownies and blondies
Cut into squares small enough to eat standing up.
Cream-filled choux puffs
Piled up the way they come out of the oven.
Savoury, frozen if you like
Lamb sausage rolls
Lamb with rosemary and garlic. Bake them from frozen at eleven o'clock.
Beef and chicken pies
Hand-crimped, and substantial enough to count as dinner.
Garlic bread
Soft bread with garlic butter, for tearing.
Something to cut at midnight
A celebration cake for New Year does not need to be complicated, it needs to be the right size and worth cutting in front of people. The chocolate cake under coffee buttercream is the one I would pick for a room full of adults; the vanilla with vanilla bean buttercream is the safer bet for a mixed crowd. Both cut cleanly at midnight when nobody is being careful.
Food that survives a long night
Sausage rolls, pies and garlic bread can be collected frozen and baked at home whenever the evening needs feeding, which is usually later than planned. Cookie boxes and brownie squares sit out on a table all night without going sad, which is more than can be said for anything with cream on it.
New Year's Day, too
The first of January is a quieter order and a nicer one: banana bread, cinnamon buns, choux puffs, something to put in front of people who are not going to speak much before noon.
New Year 2026
See the year in with something worth cutting.
Write to me with what you would like, how many you are feeding and the date you want it. I will confirm the lot and send a price. Seasonal orders are taken in small numbers so everything is baked in the week you collect it.
